Dominique DeLong is a rising star as a feminist photographer. She wanted a concise one-page website displaying her work to present for submissions for live exhibitions and to feature current work online. In our initial interview, we discussed what events she wanted to attend and what photography she wanted to include in her sample presented online. It became clear that Dominique needed to establish a cohesive brand to link to her body of work.
I will present a fresh color scheme and logo design using brand integration. Dominique supplied an icon she had previously designed in black. After initial interviews and discussions regarding her artistic reach, I believe merging Dominique, the artist, with her brand can be an effective gain to personify and curate her projects.
I handcrafted LoFi Adobe XD mockups helped identify Dominique's brand requirements. Modifications were made per overall goals to increase her art's visibility online and reach more galleries and events to promote more live showings of her work.
The new color scheme embodies emotions of optimism and strength. Font choice Sansita has some Argentine flavor and is strong and feminine. Open Sans is clear and commands a direct voice. And using lowercase fonts speaks to intimacy and conversations with a close friend.
The original icon Dominique supplied was black (seen below) and seemed to disappear on the page, losing context. The new logo is bright and injects life boasting a fresh on-brand color change and incorporating the logo into her name. Immediately it exhibited more presence and affinity, blending her brand identity and unifying purpose.
HiFi Adobe XD mockup changes reflect the need to be clear and more transparent. I integrated two additional spaces for her artwork into the portfolio section. This will increase her options making her more competitive with her submissions to live events.
I asked for more photos of Dominique to make the hero section more personal and robust. I received unapologetic, unfiltered self-portraits. After subtle image blurs were explored, I realized the strength of her words in her artistic statement needed to be heard. So I decided to be true to her philosophy showing Dominique "unfiltered" as beautiful, inquisitive, and hopeful in her own light.
Dominique's brand is now solid and has direction. Working with her and learning about her creative process and message was a pleasure. Her voice is clear and is heavily imprinted on this website. I learned the aspects of blending a brand into a personality could create a visual expression of self.
I was retained to develop and maintain her site to keep her page current. I created the site from scratch on Webflow, and a copy of this project is under version control and temporarily hosted by GitHub for client staging.
